Hike Mt. Tam with Sweet

Sweet  Jul 14

Hike Mt. Tam with Sweet to Benefit Homeless Youth
Join TEAM SWEET on August 15 on the Hikefor Homeless Youth, a half-day climb up Mt. Tamalpais in support of At The Crossroads. We will be trekking up one of the Bay Area’s highest peaks and getting our friends to sponsor us to raise funds for ATC. All the money will go to support ATC’s work with young people on the streets of San Francisco.

At The Crossroads walks the streets of San Francisco, reaching out to homeless youth and young adults on their turf. They work with young people who others have given up on. In the last 10 years, ATC has worked with more than 5,000 youth, helping them build outstanding lives.

Sweet is all about making the world a better place. We love doing things to make our communities stronger, safer, and healthier.

That’s why we love At The Crossroads, and believe wholeheartedly in their mission. In May, 30 Sweeties volunteered 2 hours each at ATC prepping vital supply kits, organizing the clothing room and making cards. ATC’s clients deserve all of the support they can get. We want to do everything in our power to make that happen.

The hike starts from the Bootjack Picnic Area anytime between 8 and 10am. It should take 4-5 hours (you can choose to do a shorter route, and we also have a special “children’s loop” for families). Bring hiking boots, water bottle, sunglasses, hat and your sweet smile! ATC will provide T-shirts, lunch, snacks, first aid supplies, sunblock and bug repellent as well as that squishy happy feeling that comes from doing a good thing.

Register for the team.

Sweet Buffalo Bayou Cleanup

A jewel running through the heart of Houston, Buffalo Bayou has become a destination for outdoor recreation near downtown Houston. The 52-mile slow-moving waterway that was the site of Houston’s founding in 1836, is one of the few bayous left in central Houston that was not covered in concrete in the 1960s and 1970s. But the Bayou suffers from pollution and invasive species introduction.

Sweet is partnering with The Buffalo Bayou Partnership, Japhet Creek Community Association, Urban Harvest and GreenHoustonTX to clean Japhet Creek to help preserve the incredibly diverse urban ecosystem that supports migrating songbirds, aquatic turtles, swamp rabbits and red-tailed hawks. Join us on Saturday, July 17, from 9:30-11:30 am to help keep Japhet Creek a pristine home for dozens of native species of flora and fauna.

After we save the world, we’ll meet for a “dam good” lunch at Monica Pope’s celebrated Beavers Restaurant at 2310 Decatur Street.

Please meet us at 9:15 am at Japhet Creek: 6401 Clinton (corner of Emile and Clinton Drive)

Wear boots and casual clothing. Please bring sunscreen and bug repellant. Gloves, water and coffee will be provided.

Let us know if you’re coming to Japhet Creek so we know how many gloves to bring. Email info [at] discoversweet.com.

Sweeties help homeless youth

Sweet  Jun 7

In mid-May, 30 Sweet volunteeristas converged on At the Crossroads to prep supplies for San Francisco’s homeless youth. Some of us made greeting cards, candy packs and safe injection kits. Others folded and organized clothing or washed messenger bags.

At the Crossroads is the brainchild of Rob Gitin, who wants to inspire homeless youth to dream big dreams and support them while they reach for them. A big part of that is building trust. At the Crossroads isn’t about telling people what do. It’s about helping them overcome obstacles and achieve their goals. It’s really an incredible program with a huge success rate. Watch a short documentary about their work. Read the rest of this entry »
