Sweet Somethings: Sour ruling

sweet somethings header Sweet Somethings: Sour rulingToday’s California Supreme Court ruling is downright sour. The good news is that the 18,000 same-sex marriages that took place prior to the passage of Proposition 8 stand. The bad news is that the fight for our civil rights continues.

Sweet is dedicated to making the world a better place. We’ll continue to support great organizations like Equality California and the National Center for Lesbian Rights that work tirelessly to achieve full marriage equality for all LGBT Californians.

Now, more than ever, it’s vital that we stay vigilant and visible in our march toward equality. The more we let people into our lives and let people get to know us, the less likely they are to vote to discriminate against us. Civil rights should not be a popularity contest. The courts are there to ensure that the equal rights promised by our constitution are upheld. That did not happen today. We took a step back. Do not lose heart. We’ve made significant gains on this issue and so many others. It’s time to look forward to the new challenges ahead. The question is not whether we will achieve equality in California and beyond, but when. Hold your heads high and keep moving forward. It’s not over until we’re equal.

Stay Sweet, stay strong,
Shannon
