Sweet repeat offender
On my last Sweet vacation to Cozumel, we packed a tour bus full of lesbians and headed out late one evening to seek, watch, release and pretty much love on sea turtles.
The bus was packed as we headed to the protected part of the island. I was sitting in the front seat, right behind the driver.
The process is simple: You hook up search lights (with red tape on them) and scan the beach for giant turtles coming to lay their eggs or babies digging out of their nest. The red tape that covers the light is super important as it allows you to use the lights without disorienting the turtles. Regular white light hurts the turtle’s eyes. However, as we were searching for turtles, the red tape that covered the lights burnt up. It smoked right off the light. They did not have anymore. We pushed on with white light.
My heart sunk. “Noooo! We can’t hurt the turtle’s eyes!”
Adrian, literally Mr. Cozumel and our tour guide all week, told me how desparate the biology team is for supplies. These people who comb the beaches every night to save sea turtles are volunteers. One flashlight is like gold to them.
That was my “a-ha” moment. I CAN HELP! I can make sure they don’t run out of red tape again. I figure I could get some deals on batteries, flashlights, lamps and red tape here in the states. I am asking all my friends and colleagues to help me collect these vital supplies and send them to Cozumel. Click here for details.
Editor’s note: Denise is contributing $300 of her own money as well as paying for the shipping and handling. Last year, Denise raised over $7,000 after our Sweet Caribbean Cruise to send additional computers to our Roatan E-Learning project. Sweet loves Denise.

It’s amazing how big a heart fits inside Denise’s little frame! Thank you for sharing your heart with Sweet once again, and with the amazing sea turtles of Cozumel. I saw for myself how far a few dollars can go to help the dedicated volunteers who care for these extraordinary creatures. I hope lots of Sweeties click through to your site and help.
