sweetcaribbean1 Sweet Caribbean Cruise

Southwest: Official AirlineSouthwest: Official Airline

Join us for seven fun-filled days in the Western Caribbean, November 8-15, 2009, as Sweet takes over the entire Norwegian Spirit.

Our journey starts in New Orleans, where we’ll light up Bourbon Street with a huge party to launch our first cruise the night before we leave. Additionally, we’ll offer a three-day pre-package that offers guests the opportunity to pitch in with the Katrina relief effort by day and enjoy New Orleans’ legendary clubs by night.

From New Orleans we chart a course for the sunny, sleepy (until we get there) fishing village of Costa Maya, Mexico. Designed for cruise travelers bent on relaxation, Costa Maya has a hammock with your name on it as well as a gigantic saltwater pool with a swim-up bar.

Mayan ruins, colonial buildings and wildlife sanctuaries await in bustling Belize City, Belize.

We’ll spend an entire day in Roatan, Honduras, where the beach is plentiful, the water is clear and the coral reefs are full of amazing creatures. Roatan is one of the best places in the world to scuba dive and snorkel. Not a big fan of getting wet, explore the depths in a submersible boat.

Mmm, Cozumel, where the jungle hides ancient ruins and mystical cave formations draw travelers to Chac Tun Cavern. Whether you want to relax on the white sand beaches, enjoy a catamaran party cruise or peer at the brightly colored fishes from on top of the water or underwater, you’re sure to have a blast.

With four of the hottest DJs, parties by the legendary Club Skirts (makers of The Dinah Shore Weekend) and fantastic theme parties, it’s going to be an unbelievable week of music and dancing.

Hi

Sounds amazing, just a pity we are from South Africa and the economy is so bad here, we gonna pay an arm and a leg!!!

Erika,
We’re all wishing you better exchange rates in the coming year!

Stay Sweet,
Shannon

Greetings to all of you,

The trip to the Caribbean sounds so beautiful. My question is primarily for the departure destination. Is it to my understanding that commuters will have to go to LA to leave or are there other area(s)to connect to the final departure destination.

Ladai J

Hi Ladai,

Thank you for asking such an important question. All guest will need to arrive in New Orleans on or before November 8th, 2009 to board the ship. Boarding time will begin at approximately 12:00 p.m. and will end promptly at 4:00 p.m. . We will be offering a one to three night package before hand in New Orleans for those of you that want to start your vacation early.

If you have any further questions please give me a call at 877-793-3830.

Thanks and Stay Sweet!

Flavia

whats the payment plan like?

Hi To All -
I understand that being a single lesbian woman is difficult when it comes to travelling alone! I’m a very private person and would like to stay in a room by myself, how much time and effort would that take and would I have to reserve earlier than couples? I understand the pricing so that’s not an issue. Any info would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
Lori

Laura,
The payment plan is simple, no extra fees, no interest. Basically, you choose your cabin, pay the $250 deposit per person, then we divide the remaining balance by the time left before your full payment is due and, voila, we have your monthly payment.

Depending on when you book, we’ll charge your credit card on the 1st or the 15th.

For example, if you booked a lower level inside stateroom for two now, you’re looking at $2,198 total minus $500 deposit, leaving $1,698 split over 14 months. That’s $122 a month.

Stay Sweet,
Sweet

Lori,
As long as we have cabins available, you can book. I’d recommend booking early to ensure that we have the cabin of your choice, but we don’t treat a single booking a room to herself any differently than booking a couple.

If you’d like to meet other singles on board, we’ll have plenty of opportunities for you to make new friends.

Stay Sweet!

Hi Shannon,

From my understanding, single and couples may participate…right?! Uuum, as long as they are gay? Lesbian? Bi?

Don’t laugh~need to know from the pro’s like you, whats what.

Cheers~Sky

Hi Sky,
Yes, singles and couples are both welcome. Our vacations are designed for lesbian travelers. We welcome anyone who wants to be in a totally lesbian-centered world for a week.

Thanks for the question.

Stay Sweet,
Shannon

Hi Sweet,

Do you ever offer anything for families? For example lesbian couple with children?

mgs

Hi Mindy,

We are greatly interested in offering family vacations in the future. For our inaugural cruise in November 2009 guests must be 21 years of age or older. Eventually we hope to welcome your whole family.

Thank You and Stay Sweet!

Flavia

Hi,
The NYT says that this cruise is a volunteer-oriented one. So what are the projects in the Caribbean? Or is the volunteerism only in New Orleans?

Thanks,
Jane

Hi Jane,
We’re currently researching volunteer opportunities in each of the ports we visit. We’ll announce them as soon as we confirm what they are. They’ll be offered like an additional excursion from the ship. We’ll be able to take 50-100 people on a volunteer excursion in each port. I’m hoping the demand is so high for the volunteer excursions that we’ll have three or four in each port.

Stay Sweet,
Shannon

I am ecstatic to find out that there is a company such as Your operating!!! Now I have one more thing to add to my list of “dreams”!!! Deborah in Weed, CA.

Sounds Like so much fun!! Im turning 21 in feb. so Ill be of age Im going to treat myself to this cruise, or maybe ask someone to put me on it ;) …Im single, and I understand the payment plan, but I dont have any credit card at the moment..so If I book, can I make the monthly payment by check or money order??

Hi Melissa,

What a great age to be turning and what good timing! We do except checks for monthly payments. We can also use a debit card if you have one. Give me a call so that we can discuss your options. You can reach me directly at 877-793-3830. This is going to be such a great birthday present to yourself. We have a lot of singles joining us.

Thanks and Stay Sweet!

Flavia

OK, OK, OK. Just reading all the comments and other info has me so hyped. Even though my hard-working partner is still asleep, the decision has been made. Yeah, Sweet! Thank you for making it possible.

Peace,
Georgia Boi

This sounds amazing! I am going to start planning hopefully we can come along!

I started a thread for this cruise on cruisecritic.com to use until Sweet gets a it’s own message boards going.
http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=162
It would be nice if we can all get to know each other before the cruise.
Hope this isn’t a problem Sweet. I’m just so excited about this cruise.

After researching I found that the cruise on this same ship after this one is $800 cheaper. My partner and i really like the idea of this cruise but were just curious as to why it is more expensive? Are there additional offers of entertainment, etc that are not on the normal cruise?? Thanks.

Hi,
For the most complete answer to your question, please read: http://discoversweet.com/about/pricing/. As far as entertainment goes, there is absolutely entertainment you won’t see on a mainstream cruise. Suzanne Westenhoefer, Jen Foster, Edie Carey and Erin Foley will all be joining us for the week. Also, we are bringing Club Skirts of Dinah Shore fame on board to host some fabulous parties.

It is also important that you understand that our pricing includes all taxes and gratuities, your entertainment, on board activities, food and basic beverages. Those are added at checkout by NCL.

If you would like to speak with me about this, give me a call at 877-793-3830.

Thanks and Stay Sweet,
Flavia

Looking forward to taking all the gals from Ft. Lauderdale and gathering them together..Love to cruise and love Jen Foster !! Make sure you send reminder to us down here in Sunny Florida !!! Thanks and much success to you…

I would love to go on a Sweet Cruise. I have been on the “other women’s cruise” but it was too expensive for me to go frequently maybe i can go on sweet and love it there.

thanks
Lourdes

Dear Flavia
all cruises include food, on board entertainment and activities. for that matter, I have never purchased a cruise that did not include tax and at times even gratuity.
Your headliners may be more to my liking than on a mainstream cruise. But $800 worth?

sicerly
victim of the economy

Unfortunatley it takes money to make great entertainment happen, these cruises are using their own entertainment and paying them! In addition, you can not possibly get a better deal than this one. Port tax sometimes is included, not gratuities, and if the gratuities are included it isnt as cheap as 800. less. I have been cruising forever and these are great rates….just my 2 cents! Not to mention that the parties are hosted by actual people….parties that I can tell you that you would NEVER see on a straight streamlined cruise…..just saying in all sincerity..this is how it goes

Hello,

Just wanted to know if you want a room to yourself. Will the deposit be the same?

Thanks
Esha

Hi,

My partner and I are extremely excited to be joining you on this cruise. We were wondering if there is a safe in the room or on the ship?

I can’t wait for it to be November already!!!

Yes! There is a safe in your room as well as a safe you may store things in at the front desk.

Seriously, November needs to get here already.

xo

This cruise sounds spectacular. I have a question about the volunteering. Is it mandatory? I am happy to do it – just want to check what all is required.

Shannon,
Our volunteer projects are completely voluntary. We’ll have spots for 50 to 100 guests to volunteer in each port, so we’ll only have spots for roughly 20 percent of our guests to volunteer. Thank you for your question.

Stay Sweet,
Shannon

Hi..I am happy to see another avenue open for lesbians to take cruises at a more affordable price. Good Luck!!! Hope to see you all soon on one of your voyages!

Hello I have never been on a lesbian cruise before so please excure me if I sound Ignorant. Will the crew and ammenities be the same as a straight cruise? Am I to expect any different services or treatments than those provided on a straight cruise? besides entertainment and activities of course.

Thanks

Keep me on your files for future trips. My friends play golf

Hello Sweet,
I will love to go in the cruise with you, but November is too soon for us since we already made other vacation plans for this year. Are you planning another cruise for 2010? and which month, I will for sure make then.
Thank you! I have gone on three 7 days cruise but with family and friends; it is true they can be less expensive, but having the oportunity to be you with your partner in a gay or lesbian cruise, I think it is worth it. I don’t mind paying your price, I think the price is right. Good luck!

Patty

[...] I thought my eco-thinking lesbian readers may be interested in the Sweet Carribbean Cruise coming up in November! The year-old Sweet’s first cruise kicks off with a pre-cruise, 3-day [...]

Hello Sweet—

The cruise you have set looks wonderful, and I am so glad it is departing out of New Orleans. I want to do something special for my partner in honor of our 5th year anniversary. Do you have any romantic activities occuring or any suggestions.

Jae

[...] Suzanne, and several other artists that will be joining her on board the upcoming Sweet Caribbean Cruise, had a very special chance to participate in a NOH8 campaign photo shoot, and their photos came out [...]

Will yoga classes be offered daily? If so, what is the extra charge for each class, and can we bring our own yoga mat?

Hi,

I am happy to say that there will absolutely be yoga classes on board the ship. The fee for these classes is on average about $12. They often run specials for packages such as three classes for $30.

On a personal note, I am so excited that you want to practice while on the ship. I will be joining you in as many classes as I can.

Thanks and Stay Sweet!

Flavia

Hi I am completely new at this so please excuse me if i sound ignorant. My girlfriend of 5 years just broke up with me and i didn’t see it coming at all. Come to find out she has found someone 5 years younger than me and I do not understand it at all. She is the only girl I’ve ever been with and I think something like this may be just what I need to get me out of this. Since I am finding out about this so late, when is your next cruise or do you have any room left on the one departing in November? I am very nervous about doing something like this alone, do most people come as couples?

First, that totally blows. I’m so sorry about your heartache. Second, our ship is about 25 percent singles. We have a fantastic singles program for you. We can match you with a roommate, too. We do have a few spaces available this November. And, you’re right, this cruise is the perfect way to mend your broken heart and celebrate your new freedom. Give us a call at 877.793.3830, we’ll talk you through the whole thing.

Stay Sweet,
Shannon

[...] Book your Sweet Caribbean Cruise! [...]

Hello everybody, I guess this is the message board? I live in the Czech Republic, so I may be a little better off than the lady writing from South Africa, still, a trip with Sweet is something to dream about for now. Considering that people can take a fourth person for free, maybe someone would choose me (in the future)for that place of honour if they only knew me! So this is kind of a contact ad :-) If anyone would like to correspond with me about the possibility of travelling together, Shannon has my email address :-) I´ll be wishing on a star tonight…

ME AND MY GIRL BEEN LOOKING FOR A CRUISE LIKE THIS WE LOVE TO TRAVEL ALOT AND MEAT OTHERS. WOULD LOVE TO BE THE ONE TO GO ON YOUR CRUISE.

I’ve been thinking about this cruise for awhile…is it too late too book…I’m single now….and would love to take this cruise…would like to know if its too late?

My GF and I will be there. We can’t wait to meet everyone. Someone mentioned the price difference of this cruise v/s the following week. There is a difference. But, unless you traveled and experienced an “all women” vacation you will never understand why it is worth it. I would always pay more for an all women experience v/s a straight cruise. It is worth it! I promise, you will love it.
Michelle and Angela

Hi Can you please let me know the times of the departure and the arrival of the ship so we can book our flights accordingly.

Thank You

Embarkation is from noon to 4pm on November 8. All aboard is 4pm, so please give yourself plenty of time to check in. Disembarkation is from 9 to 11am on November 15. We recommend you book your flights home from New Orleans after 1pm.

Check out our handy FAQ for all your Sweet Caribbean Cruise questions: http://discoversweet.com/sweet-caribbean-cruise-faq/

[...] It’s getting CLOSE!!  The last chance for you to join us on the very first SWEET Caribbean Cruise!! [...]

Can you please tell me are alcohol beverages included. also will there be any formal attire nights on this cruise. Thank You

Alcohol is additional; however, it’s not as expensive as it is in most clubs. It’s your vacation, you can wear what you want. We have two parties where we recommend more formal dress.

We’re looking forward to seeing you in the Caribbean!

Will you be showing the Saints game on board the ship on Sunday, November 8th, while we are still docked?

Two NFL games will be shown on board; however, the league chooses which games to give NCL for broadcast, so we won’t know until game time who we’re going to see.

If the Saints are playing on Nov 8, it’s going to be a mess just to circulate in New Orleans… I’m just saying

The Saints play the Panthers at 3.05pm on Nov. 8. That’s a very good reason folks should fly in the night before. Thank you for pointing that out.

What about the passport card instaed of the passport book? Its for use in the caribean, bermuda, mexicao, by sea or land.

Yes, a passport card will work for this cruise.

I know this may be an ignorant question but can men come on this cruise.I have a couple who are my friends but they are your average couple-male/female. Would I be able to bring them with me and my partner.

Yes, Sweet caters to lesbians, but we welcome anyone who wants to have a good time with us. For instance, my mom and her husband are joining us.
See you soon,
Shannon

Can you believe it is one month away!!!! We can’t wait to meet everyone. Michelle n Ang (Indiana)

Anyone flying from Orlando?

WE WILL BE PULLING OUT IN 18 DAYS. STAY SWEET Dionia n Kristen

I’m from the states… now livng in Belize City. Any help you might need on this end?

Denise

Come hang out with us at the port or while we’re working on the children’s hospital!

Looking for someone to share a room in New Orleans on Nov. 7th, the night before the cruise.
Call or text: 303-810-7891

Thanks:)

Thanks for the invite! What day and time will you be arriving in Belize City? The local paper has your arrival date noted as Thursday, Nov. 11th… but Nov. 11th happens to be a Wed!~ ??? Headlines on this front page article: “Lesbian “voluntouristas” headed for Belize.”

The paper notes you will “help to create a childrens story time corner and mini-library in an underpriviledged school, and help brighten a pediatric ward by painting cartoon characters, glowing stars and spreading cheer throughout a local hospital’s children’s ward.” (fyi… there is no children’s hospital in Belize… just a wing.)

Will look forward to your visit! I’ve been in Belize for over 4 years and have yet to meet one lesbian. My gaydar just doesn’t seem to WORK here! :) )

I really could not be MORE EXCITED!!!!!!! Yeaa!

Denise,
We pull in around 9am. Save us a copy of that paper! Also, yes, it’s a wing of the hospital in Belize that we’ll be painting.

We’re looking forward to meeting you.

Shannon

Thanks, Shannon… will find another copy to save for you… already cut out the article from my paper.

So you arrive at 9 am…but on which day? Wed. the 11th or Thurs. the 12th?

Just an FYI… there isn’t a port where you will dock… ie… walking down a gang-plank to land. You will dock at sea and big flatboats will transfer guests back and forth. So much for hanging at the port.

ewwww… might someone please bring a couple bags of Red Vines for me? They can’t be found anywhere in this country! :( drooling….

in anticipation,
denise

PS… should any of your guests want other ways to help the people of this country, please let me know. ie… one girls high school in the City is in desperate need of some new badminton equipment. (I came here as Peace Corps Volunteer, and even now that I’m out, I continue trying to do good things for the people of Belize.)

We’ll come ashore by tender. There’s a restaurant called the thirsty lizard (or something like that) near where we catch the calypso train. We end our day at the lizard bar, too. We’ll be there Wednesday, Nov. 11. I’m not sure I’ll remember Red Vines, but hopefully someone will. I look forward to meeting you, Denise.

Ah yes… the Wet Lizard Restaurant and Bar… right in the middle of Tourist Village. Nice place to enjoy the harbor views and breezes. I live two blocks away! Lots of shiny new shops selling all the usual tourist goodies… definitely the PRETTIER part of town!

Perhaps the guests might think to change a few dollars into Belize $1 coins… ($.50 US$).
All the little kids see White Folk… and come running.

“Gimme dolla, Miss….”
“Gimme dolla.”

easier to DO so than to fend them off!

See you there!!

Wet Lizard! I was close. I’m glad the lizard isn’t dehydrated.

You know what they say one should DO when in the Caribbean, right…?

HYDRATE…

HYDRATE…!

Belizean-made rum is big…!
:)

Denise – will you be at the Wet Lizard? I’d be happy to bring along some Red Vines for ya!

Questions: Can you change money at the port? Also, what activities do you suggest doing in your fair country?

Thanks

Yo, T. All of our ports take US currency. They’ll give you change in local currency.

Party at the Wet Lizard!

Hi T…

You’re ON regarding bringing some Red Vines for me! THANKS! You’re a LOVE! Yes… see you at the Wet Lizard!!

Indeed US $ are accepted throughout Belize… even a US quarter (50 cents BZ) is a good handout to the kids. A US dollar is almost TOO much… thus my suggestion to get BZ $1 coins at the port.

Lots to see and do…depending on time, transportation, etc. There are Mayan ruins all over the country… Xunantunich the tallest! (Zoo-nan-tu nich) EXCELLENT diving, snorkeling, swimming with nurse sharks, etc… all along the 2nd largest barrier reef in the world… runs along Belize from the north to the south. There are jungle zip-line trips… waterfalls to visit… the baboon sanctuary is where you will surely see howler monkeys)… the Belize Zoo is unique, having only native animals on exhibit… cool park in the east called Poustini Art Park where art is built outdoors knowing that it will eventually be taken over by nature (requires reservations). Way cool! There is Crocland Adventure park: huge pool… rtv’s to ride into the jungle… horseback riding… crocs, etc. Cave tubing is pretty neat… whether on an inner tube, in a canoe or swimming. What else?

It’d be interesting to get out of the city to see how MOST people live in small thatch huts…dirt floors… washing clothes on stones in the rivers… cooking over open fires, etc. Most of Belize is very rural and poor.

Anything specific you’re wanting to see or know about?
happy to chat!

There’s one really unusual place in Belize… near Dangriga Town in the south… all buses traveling thru ‘Griga pass thru this particular ’spot’. The terrain throughout this area includes lots of steep hills winding thru the bush and jungle land. It’s beautiful… more GREEN that you will ever see.

In one spot along this major road, all vehicles slow WAY down even ‘tho you’ve got the pedal to the floor… and… get this!…. at ONE particular, rather steep downhill spot, if you stop the vehicle… put it into neutral and lift off the brake… the vehicle will travel UPHILL!!!

NO LIE!

I can’t understand how or why this hasn’t become a ‘place of interest’ for more tourists, but, nobody pays it any attention! We tested this ‘energy vortex’ with a VAN full of 15 Peace Corps Volunteers back in 2005… and… UPHILL we went! EWWWWW…!! Amazingly intriguing!

I LOVE stuff like this!

Are yoga classes offered on board and if yes, are mats provided?

Yes! and yes!

Quick question, while in Cozumel any possibility of arranging a preview tour of the Cozumel Palace Resort, the destination for the September 2010 trip? Trying to drum up the business for you all and keep the momentum going!!!!

Talk to Flavia on board. We’re not able to go over in large groups, but you are welcome to stop by and see how amazing it is. It’s very close to where the ship docks.

Great!! Thank you

Wow!

Are you guys getting the Press here in Belize…!! This time, a FULL PAGE article in The Reporter (Nov. 1st issue) with a photo of the cruise ship.

HEADLINES: Humanitarian Lesbian group cruises into Belize!
Will save it for you… with the other one!

maybe a red carpet is in order??
:) )

Hello! Are there any women from the Los Angeles area booked for the cruise? It’s only a week away but my partner and I are hoping to connect and make friends with some other passengers prior to our amazing vacation! We live in Culver City and spend time in Northridge and Santa Monica. If you are nearby please call or text me.
-Sarah :)

What about during the summer months. I am a teacher. I have been never on a lesbian vacation and wanting to venture out. Either by land or sea.
Carolyn

Hi! I was wondering if a similar cruise trip will be planned for next year? My friend and I would definitely be interested!

My girlfriend and I are rather senior at 62 and 72 years of age and both retired, but very young at heart. We are looking for a cruise to Alaska. Do you offer such a cruise. Please send info if possible.

Any talk of what you’re going to do about Tropical Storm Ida? Seems like Day One is going to go right through it possibly….

Right now, we’re not impacted by Ida. Our route will shift if that changes. NCL is monitoring the situation closely. I’ll let you know if there’s anything to know.
See you soon,
Shannon

We don’t just yet, but stay tuned, young at heart.

Ok Denise,
I remembered and bought you 2 packs of Red Vines.
Hope we see you….we’re Twizzler lovers! :)
Nielle

Are we going to be able to watch Monday Night Football on the Ship?

Nielle!

I LOVE YOU!! thanks so much!!
Will meet you Wed. at 9am at the Wet Lizard!
yahooooo!

btw, I understand there WILL be press coming to do a story about this “Lesbian Voluntourisa Group”… so keep your smiles BRIGHT, everyone!!

Hoping IDA doesn’t affect your trip! We’re getting rain… and the weekend looks to be more of the same with flooding likely in the south (a normal occurance with any good rain!) but… should be GONE by the time you all arrive!

Safe travels…
looking forward to meeting everyone!

ewwwww! Red Vines!! you da best!! :) ))
d

i just tried to log into the ncl excursions, and the it says “no available excursion”…did I wait to long to book stuff? :-( can we book stuff on board?

We don’t know which games the NFL will give us to watch for Sunday. Hopefully, it’s the Saints. Yes, Monday Night Football is on!

Yes, you waited too long. Excursion booking closes 5 days prior to departure. You may resume booking your excursions on the cruise.

Suzanne Westenhoefer is on this cruise?? WOW..~! Back in the 90’s, I was the San Diego PRIDE Photographic Supervisor… and I took the BEST photo of Suzanne with Mimi Gonzales! Sent it to Suzanne and she loved it! Someone DO say hello to her for me, please!

Bon Voyage!
d

Hoping you all enjoyed your day in Belize! You sure made MY day! …and your volunteer efforts will be long remembered and appreciated! Can’t wait to see the Press it generates. Should the news coverage appear online, I’ll post the URL right here.

Nielle… you remembered the licorice!
SOOOO many thanks!
1 box… ALREADY GONE! :)

I had so many great visits with MANY of you!
THANKS to all of you for sharing… and for the hugs! oh my!
