NewOrleans thumb Sweet Caribbean: portsOne of the most diverse cities in the world, New Orleans is like no place you’ve ever been. It’s truly a city that never sleeps — the bars have no closing hour, the food is spicy and the music is pulsating. There’s a little bit of everything in this city on the banks of the mighty Mississippi River.

The city has a reputation for its historical roots, hot and muggy weather, great food, great music and great times. Despite being hit hard by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, New Orleans is still a tourist hotspot. Jazz music rules the streets in a perpetual celebration of Mardi Gras. Enjoy the French Quarter, home of the legendary Bourbon Street, the oldest, most famous part of the city.

For those joining Sweet on our pre-package, we’ll enjoy three nights in the French Quarter, complete with a gay and lesbian history tour, French Quarter tour, exclusive Sweet party, cooking demonstration (followed by a meal) and wetlands restoration project designed to prevent future flooding.

Bird watchers, pseudo-archeologists, divers and adventurers at heart, get ready for Belize. Belize boasts landscapes mixing mountains, savannas, wetlands, lush tropical rainforests and coastal lagoons. Half of Belize is covered by jungle with 80 percent of the rainforest under government protection.

The tropical forests of Belize are home to jaguar, puma, ocelot, armadillo, tapir (they look like the offspring of a pig and a rhinoceros, only cute) and crocodile. With more than 4,000 species of tropical flowers, including 250 kinds of orchids, you’re surrounded by fragrant beauty. Additionally, there are more than 500 species of birds including toucans (Belize’s national bird), Jabiru stork (largest flying bird in the Americas), Agami heron, hummingbirds, vibrantly colored parrots, macaws, heron and snowy egret.

Mayan ruins abound with over 600 remaining sites. Visit Altun Ha, the most visited Mayan ruin and the ceremonial center for many of the country’s Mayans. Here you will see the largest jade head of the sun god ever found as well as a 1,000-year-old central pyramid, the second tallest structure in Belize.

And we haven’t even mentioned the underwater delights! Belize has the longest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere and the second largest in the world.

THURSDAY
Roatan, Honduras

Roatan thumb Sweet Caribbean: portsRead Flavia’s blog about Roatan for more information
Roatan, the largest of the Bay Islands off the northern coast of mainland Honduras, is most well known for its mountainous backbone and the coral reef clinging to its shores. It’s a scuba diver’s paradise. Dive seawalls, shipwrecks and the vibrant coral reef. You will have the chance to see sea turtles, dolphins and whales. Snorkelers, the reef is accessible from the beach. Enjoy the beautiful white sand beaches of this mellow island paradise.

Roatan is a diverse melting pot, not unlike New Orleans. You can visit the Garifuna community of Punta Gorda. Garifuna are mixed Caribbean and African ancestry who the British deported to the area in the late 18th century after their defeat on the island of St. Vincent, where shipwrecked and escaped African slaves had intermarried with the indigenous Caribbean population in the early 17th century.

What is your relationship with Olivia?

Beyond being great admirers of what they’ve accomplished over the past 35 years, Sweet has no relationship with Olivia.

What types of food options are offered on your sea excursions? My partner and I are vegetarian, and she has many allergies and other food restrictions.

With 11 restaurants (Japanese, Chinese, French, Italian, American, etc) on board, you’re sure to find plenty to eat. I’m also vegetarian. My girlfriend doesn’t do dairy or wheat. Norwegian has assured us that we’ll have plenty to eat on board.

When you book your cruise, please let Flavia know in detail what your restrictions are and we’ll make sure you have plenty of choices on board.

Stay Sweet,
Shannon

My girlfriend and I are getting married on 10/31/2009 in CT and this cruise is perfect timing for our Honeymoon! We can’t wait to see everyone onboard! All the best, Christa & Farrah

Hi Christa and Farrah,

It was great speaking with you today! I am so glad you are joining us for such an amazing time in your life. We can’t wait to celebrate with you.

What are the age ranges of people who attend? I’m 18 and I know a group of my friends would love to go, but we’re curious if there will be others our age.

Hi Robyn,

Thanks for your interest in Sweet. We would love to have you join us but our trips are 21 and over unless otherwise stated. Just three more years to go and you can join the party!

Please keep us in mind for the future.

Thanks and Stay Sweet!

Flavia

Does the cost of the cruise as listed cover any additional fees; such as: flights, port charges, taxes?

Hi,
The price you see listed on our web site includes all on board taxes and gratuities, accommodations, entertainment, food, basic beverages and activities. Additional costs are alcoholic beverages, spa treatments, casino games, premium meals (like lobster and steak) and guided tours. You’ll need to make your own transportation arrangements to our point of departure.

Please give me a call if you have any further questions. You can reach me directly at 877-793-3830.

Thanks and stay Sweet,
Flavia

Hi Flavia,

Thank you for taking our reservation.

My girlfriend and I look forward to spending 7 days aboard your cruise ship and enjoying all of the activities.

If I book a returning flight leaving New Orleans at 3pm will this give us ample time to leave the ship and make the flight with no stess? Please let me know so I can book the flight with plenty of time to spare

Are you flying in from New York Carly?

Hi my name is Patty, I have done 3, 7 days cruises with my family and friends; but I will love to make this with my partner only; are you going in another month after November?

Hi Patty,

At this point we only have the Sweet Caribbean Cruise planned in November. However, I am working on another big cruise for 2010 and details for that cruise should be available a little later this year. So, make sure you stay tuned for more Sweet vacations to come!

Stay Sweet,

Nicoll

Which hotels do you recommend close to the port if we arrive a day earlier?

Hi Roni,
We’re so glad you’re joining us! We have a discounted room block for Sweet at the Hotel Monteleone. It’s very close to the port terminal and loads of Sweet women will be staying there.

To reserve, call 504.523.3341 and reference “Sweet.”

can you bring alcohol with you on board?

Hello Flavia,

I was on the Norwegian Spirit three years ago for my 50th birthday. It was a “straight” cruise and I am a gay woman who traveled singly. I had the time of my life!

The ship is beautiful, food was superb with all the restaurants and the crew and service was absolutely first class!

I can only imagine what this cruise will be like!

I would encourage anyone traveling alone to do so without hesitation!

I’m just sorry I just got back from vacation.

Enjoy,
Vicki

What three nights will you be in New Orleans? Before the cruise or after.

Anyone who has never been to New Orleans your are in for a BIG treat! New Orleans is one if not the most Gay friendly towns anywhere.

Don’t worry about the bar scene. Although there are not many (maybe one) “women only” bars, the bar scene is great. Years ago, it seemed foolish to have segregated bars. Now every bar regardless if they are leather, bear, women, drag, dancing, country or neighborhood, they are all mixed (men and women) and there are about 30 withing walking distance from the Hotel Monteleone.

Have loads of fun and you can do it 24/7 in New Orleans!

We’re in New Orleans, Nov. 5-8. It’s going to be a blast.

FYI the hotel is a minimum of 2 nights. If you are planning to stay just one night there are tons of hotels right there. I just did a seach and came up with page after page.

You can stay at the Monteleone one night. The reservation people keep getting this messed up. Please insist when you call. Our block is over many nights, but it doesn’t matter which you choose to stay.
